Focus is defined as “the concentration of attention or energy on something or someone.” When it comes to healing – whether it’s medical healing, spiritual healing, energy healing, or any other form of alternative healing – you won’t realize success without proper focus.Consider, you injure your leg, and because of the severe pain, you seek medical help. However, when you see the doctor, instead of focusing on your injured leg and telling him about the injury and pain, because you are very tired, you start telling him how tired you are, how you can’t sleep at night, not mentioning that the cause for your insomnia is the pain in your leg.

Because you brought up the sleeping problem instead of your injury, the doctor assumes that you came in to see him about sleep problems, and he asks you questions about your sleeping. The entire office visit takes an unexpected turn – the focus is not on your leg injury but on your not sleeping at night. Consequently, the doctor prescribes something for your sleep problems and never learned about your leg injury.A week later, you report to a friend, “I don’t think much of Doctor So-and-So. I went to see him last week suffering from a bad leg injury, and all he did was give me a few pills to help me sleep better. My leg hurts worse than ever.”The above scenario often parallels other healing settings. Someone is seeking healing for one thing, and somehow the focus gets sidetracked to something else, and the possibility of healing becomes nullified before it ever gets off the ground since the needed focus gets sidetracked.In order for healing to take place, the focus must be on healing and not on anything else.

If the focus is misdirected, a healing can be channeled in the wrong direction as in the leg-injury scenario above or, if healing work is done by an individual for one’s self and the focus is misdirected, the healing work will abort or be negated depending on circumstances, and the illness can become exacerbated.When doing healing work for one’s self, the focus must completely be on healing – the mind must not be distracted by a TV program in the background (for example), or on thoughts of incidents that occurred earlier in the day, or on things that need to be done. If the mind is allowed to wander, the healing energy created by an individual may be too weak to do any good, or it can become warped or tainted, causing the energy to be ineffective or, in some instances without realizing it, behave in unexpected ways.When weak, ineffective spiritual work is done over a period of time (a week or more), the person seeking healing may tell a friend, “I faithfully did spiritual-energy healing work and it didn’t seem to do any good; I don’t see any improvement. So, I wonder if it really does work.

Focus on the problem and tell the practitioner specifically what the problem is, how it started, how you felt when it started, and how you feel now. Don’t bring up any other side issues unless they are relevant to the main problem. Don’t tell the practitioner that you have trouble sleeping at night and are tired in the morning if you need treatment for an injured leg which is the cause of keeping you awake at night

If you are doing spiritual healing or energy healing work to become healed, don’t let your thoughts stray from the task at hand. Material distractions such as TV, thinking about incidents that happened at home or work earlier in the day, or external goings-on should not be allowed to enter your thinking or be a part of it while doing spiritual healing work.
