Acne Management: Women undergo lot of changes during pregnancy; it is both mentally and physically. The changes occurring in the hormone levels when a woman is pregnant can cause a lot of skin problems like development of acne. Although acne rash appears at the initial stages of pregnancy, it automatically subdues during the second and third trimester of pregnancy. This is caused due to the changes (lower level) in the hormone called estrogen. Some may even experience an opposite effect say if they were suffering from acne before pregnancy might get rid of it after pregnancy. Acne might cause dark scars which might remain on the skin. Acne should be dealt very carefully during pregnancy, as care during pregnancy is of a very delicate nature since it involves a baby along with the mother.
During the higher levels of androgen, the oil producing gland called the sebaceous glands in the skin becomes big and sebum is secreted more which when combines with the dead cells blocks the pores and helps in the multiplication of bacteria. This condition leads to the inflammation and skin eruptions called acne.
Dos and don’ts to keep the acne to the minimum while being safe to the baby:
It is advised not to touch the spots with hands where acne is affected as it might lead to infection by bacteria.
Squeezing acne is not advised as it might become smear the infection to the near by uninfected areas and might lead to the development of a scar at a later stage.
Eating lot of fresh fruits and vegetables which are washed thoroughly and exercising the body will help in the circulation of the blood to all parts of the body thus reducing acnes.
Thorough rinsing with plenty of water after the application of soap will make the skin free from irritation and bacteria.
Application of oil-free moisturizer and usage of oil-absorbing micro fiber cloth will keep the acne in check.
Stress, also might be the reason for the outbreak of acne, so keep yourself relaxed and do things which are of more interest at the time of pregnancy.
While applying astringent in the infected area, it is better to use one cotton ball to dress a particular spot, which prevents the spreading of infections.
It is strictly advised to get the advice of a gynecologist of a physician before taking any oral medicines during pregnancy. It is wiser to avoid any such medications.
Although the causes and remedy are unknown for acne and still in the stages of research. It is also said that acne are caused even due to the outcome of other kinds of medications.
A woman during pregnancy needs moral support and understanding than any other times which will help them face any kind of a health hazard. Acne being a smaller issue can be easily tackled.
